It might be terrifying to see a house centipede run across the floor and under your sofa. Most people are completely petrified of these creepy crawlers. 

House centipedes have 15 pairs of legs and travel at speeds of 1.3 ft per second, which makes it difficult to catch one.

What Do They Eat?

House centipedes kill pests that are not welcome in your house, especially moths, flies, silverfish, termites, and roaches. They use their 2 legs right near the head and the others to scoop up the victim. The legs near the head contain venom. This technique is known as “lassoing” where the centipede jumps on its prey and wraps it up with its several legs.

The house centipedes are not only killing the bugs that you despise but also do not create any webs or nests in the process. They are active hunters and are always on the look for their next prey. Centipedes are not wood-eaters and neither do they carry any fatal disease. House centipedes just go after bugs.

You can get rid of house centipedes easily by eliminating their food first. You need to get rid of all the household pests that they prey on. Make sure that the walls do not have extra moisture by using a dehumidifier or keeping a fan in the bathroom. You can also seal off cracks so that pests do not have places to lay their eggs. Make sure to get rid of the debris as it can cause unnecessary moisture to leak into the walls.
