Mother Swan Passes Away After Her Eggs Were Smashed

Mother Swan passed away recently in Greater Manchester. The affection of a mother is one of the purest forms of love. A mother will do anything to protect her child. There are innumerous accounts of heroic tales where a mother has risked her own life for the sake of her child. 

This characteristic of a mother can be witnessed not only in humans but also among the animal kingdom. Recent news about mother octopuses dying while protecting their babies has gone viral. Thus, it is very much understandable that a mother will be pained to see her children get hurt. Something similar happened to a mother swan in Bolton. The swan had recently laid her eggs and was nesting them. She seemed very much happy and excited to see her newborns hatch out of the eggs. Unfortunately, that was not going to happen. 

Little did the poor swan know that her dreams would become a nightmare soon. A group of yobs did the unthinkable act of destroying all her eggs. They mercilessly hurled stones, bricks, and rocks at her nest. This made the mother swan very much afraid and concerned.

She desperately tried to save her babies from the sudden attack. Despite her best efforts, the poor swan could not do much. To her horror, she saw all her eggs get smashed. The attack was so brutal that none of the eggs were able to be retrieved. This attack made the swan heartbroken. 

She was devastated by the incident and did not interact much since then. In the most unfortunate turn of events, the swan passed away a few days after the attack was launched. Let us learn more about the story in detail below. 

Mother Swan Dies Of Shock After Eggs Were Destroyed

The mother swan stopped eating and drinking since the attack. There were a number of eyewitnesses of the incident. They stated that a group of teenage boys was having fun among themselves. They then decided to throw stones and rocks into the island.

Unfortunately, they aimed directly for the swan’s nest where the eggs were being nested. There were six eggs altogether. The attack destroyed three of her eggs right away. A couple more of the swan’s eggs were lost in the span of a few days. This made matters even worse for the mother swan. 

She seemed visually heartbroken at what had happened. Adding to her misery, the male swan also abandoned the nest after the attacks. Experts suspect that the male swan left because of unbearable stress. This made the mother swan all alone in her nest. She eventually died after a few days. 

Researchers at the Swan Sanctuary have stated that it was common for the swans to disappear after their children or the mate is dead. They mourn for a particular period and then fly away or join a new group. 

Mother Swan Death Leaves Everyone Heartbroken 

The mother swan was found dead just days after her eggs were destroyed. Experts could not control their grief after they discovered the dead body. They stated that the possible reason for her death was a broken heart. She could not bear the pain of watching her children get killed. 


Sympathies and waves of condolences were showered on the mother swan. The internet was flooded with comments regarding the incident. Sam Widrow is a renowned animal welfare activist. Sam expressed his grief and stated that he was shocked at what happened. 

Michael Mason did not feel well and said he did not want to comment much. The animal welfare team has urged everyone to be kind towards the animals. They are organizing campaigns for spreading awareness about animal welfare.
